We don't use Java. If you mean javascript, we certainly use that, but so does every other web app in existence. You don't really have a choice if you want an interactive tool.

My guess is that the site is running slowly for you because you're using an outdated version of Internet Explorer, like 8 or 9. If that's the case, upgrading to the most version 10 or higher, or to Firefox or Chrome, should help significantly. If you're already running an up to date browser, some information on where exactly you're experiencing slowdowns would help.
