hankshelper not performing search on all my computers

Postby techgeek » Wed Dec 30, 2009 4:15 pm

Hi,
I have been using hankshelper.com the past few days to do used car searches and think it is very useful and saves a lot of time over the individual searches I used to do for autotrader.com, cars.com, and craigslist.

But I have come across a problem where hankhelper used to work on a few of my home computers (two desktops and laptop) but now only seems to work on the laptop. When I say it doesnt work I mean that when I fill in the car info I want to search and then hit the "perform search" button nothing appears to happen. It does not go off and then bring up the individual hanks tabs with the search results; it is like it does nothing. Originally I had seen this issue on one of my desktops but it worked fine on the other desktop and laptop but now today the other desktop also does the same thing. I just tried the laptop and it still behaves fine.

My PC's are all Windows XP and I use firefox as my browser. Since it wasn't working on the desktop I thought I would try IE but it also did not work. In Firefox I tried to clear the browsing history, cookies, etc. but it did not change anything.

I am glad and thankful it is still working on my laptop but since it is such a great application thought I would post a question in case there is something I should do or try to help debug the problem?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

That is very strange. You're running exactly the same search on every computer? When you say you cleared the browser history, you went to Tools/Clear recent history, checked 'cache' and 'cookies', and chose 'everything'? I can't conceive of how it would act differently on different computers after that. Especially not working in multiple browsers.

Try disabling any firefox extensions you have running, as well as any firewall or privacy software (except windows firewall, which should be fine). If that gets it working, we can narrow it down and see exactly what the problem is.
